WE DETERMINED THAT THE IDEAL VACUUM ISP OF A 10 BAR MG-H20 ROCKET WOULD BE AS HIGH AS 340 S, WHILE THE ISP OF A AL-STEAM ROCKET WOULD BE 380 S, AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE COULD YIELD HIGHER DENSITY ISP AND OPERATIONAL BENEFITS. IN PHASE II WE PLAN TO DEVELOP AND TEST AN INTEGRATED HIGH PERFORMANCE LABORATORY MODEL SYSTEM. WE WILL FIRST FULLY CHARACTERIZE MULTIPLE PROPELLANT OXIDIZER COMBINATIONS IN A LINEAR COMBUSTOR. THEN WE WILL DESIGN, BUILD, AND TEST AN INTEGRATED SYSTEM INCLUDING BOTH A ROCKET AND A PROPELLANT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. COMPREHENSIVE TEST RESULTS WOULD FEED BACK INTO THE DESIGN, CULMINATING IN AN ADVANCED SYSTEM SIZED FOR PROSPECTIVE NEAR-TERM APPLICATIONS.

NND10WV01B - AIRBORNE RESEARCH TEST SYSTEMS (ARTS) HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SUPPORT. THE CONTRACTOR MAY BE REQUIRED TO DESIGN, MANUFACTURE/CODE, TEST, DELIVER, DOCUMENT, AND SUPPORT FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMS (ARTS) HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIRED TO MEET NASA REQUIREMENTS. THE TASKS WILL FOCUS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF CAPABILITIES TO SUPPORT NASA S AIRCRAFT FLIGHT RESEARCH PROGRAMS. TASK ORDERS WILL BE WRITTEN FOR SPECIFIC WORK. TASK DESCRIPTIONS BELOW WILL PROVIDE GENERAL GUIDANCE ON THE TYPES OF TASKS EXPECTED UNDER THIS CONTRACT. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE HARDWARE ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES TO SUPPORT NASA FLIGHT RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATIONS. WHEREVER POSSIBLE, EXISTING DESIGNS, DOCUMENTATION, AND TEST EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE LEVERAGED TO REDUCE COSTS AND DEVELOPMENT TIME. THE TYPES OF SERVICES TO BE REQUESTED MAY INCLUDE: DEVELOP FLIGHT CONTROL HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS THROUGH INTERACTION WITH MULTIPLE NASA CENTERS AND ASSOCIATED CONTRACTORS. CONDUCT PRELIMINARY AND DETAILED DESIGN OF A SYSTEM TO MEET THE APPROVED REQUIREMENTS. PRODUCE DOCUMENTATION OF THE DESIGN SUFFICIENT TO MEET NASA HARDWARE DOCUMENTATION STANDARDS. EXAMPLES INCLUDE HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT PLAN, ICD S, PRIME ITEM DEVELOPMENT SPECIFICATION, CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT PLAN, TEST REPORTS, ETC. MANUFACTURE AND DELIVER ARTS/FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM(S) AND ASSOCIATED TEST EQUIPMENT, SUCH AS HARDWARE IN THE LOOP SIMULATION. ENVIRONMENTALLY TEST THE ARTS/FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEMS(S) FOR COMPLIANCE WITH TEMPERATURE, VIBRATION, AND PRESSURE ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS. PERFORM QUALIFICATION TESTING OF THE ARTS/FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM(S). PARTICIPATE IN DESIGN AND SAFETY REVIEWS (E.G. PDR, CDR, TEST READINESS REVIEWS, FLIGHT READINESS REVIEWS). THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES TO SUPPORT NASA FLIGHT RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATIONS. GOALS CESET WILL: 1. CONDUCT APPLIED RESEARCH IN SPACE EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGIES THAT DIRECTLY BENEFIT NASA GODDARD SPACE FLIGHT CENTER (GSFC) 2. PROVIDE SYSTEM ENGINEERING OVERSIGHT OF THESE RESEARCH INITIATIVES. 3.
